WESTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) - A massage therapist is accused of sexually assaulting a client during her appointment at Spa West last weekend.

The victim, an adult woman, went to the police station at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 and reported the alleged crime.

Westlake Police Captain Gerald Vogel said officers learned Carthens was due back at work on Oct. 17 and arrested him while he was taking an Uber to the spa.

Carthens, 32, has worked at Spa West for about two weeks, said Captain Vogel.

The Cleveland Heights man is charged with rape. He waived his preliminary hearing in Rocky River Municipal Court and his case has been bound over to the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury.

Captain Vogel added Carthens also offered in-house therapist services on the app “Soothe.”

Detectives are seeking any additional victims and ask anyone with information to call them at 440-871-3311.

Carthens was unable to post his $100,000 bond and is being held at the Cuyahoga County Jail, said Captain Vogel.

He also had warrants out for traffic offenses in Beachwood and Cleveland Heights.
