PAINESVILLE, Ohio (WOIO) - Painesville police and fire worked to rescue a dog stranded on the bank of a river Tuesday morning.

Painesville Police say Lt. Toby Burgett spotted a distressed dog on the bank across the Grand River.

City officials say the fire department came out to assist in the rescue.

Fisherman Dan Martin offered the use of his boat, taking three rescuers across the river.

Fire Captain Bob Mrosko and Lt Burgett got the dog in the boat and back on land, city officials say.

Painesville police contacted the dogs owner, who said the dogs name is Midnight.

City officials say Midnight is tired, but otherwise unharmed.
