Sentencing for man guilty of killing ex-girlfriend in Cleveland Heights

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A 39-year-old Euclid man guilty of killing his ex-girlfriend in January 2023, was sentenced to 25 years in prison by Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge William McGinty Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Joshua Ward pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and having weapons under disability for the death of Shievon Seats, 43.

Cleveland Heights police said Ward called 911 around 6 a.m. on Jan. 16, 2023 and told the dispatcher he had just shot his ex-girlfriend and she was dead on the kitchen floor.

When officers responded to the home in the 3200 block of East Overlook Road, they found Seats deceased.

Ward surrendered to officers and was taken into custody at the scene.
