Clogged toilet leads to felony charge for Solon jail inmate
Police said the 26-year-old woman “purposely flooded the facility.”
SOLON, Ohio (WOIO) - A Cleveland woman is facing a felony charge over damages caused by a clogged toilet at the Solon Detention Facility.
Dasia Chappell, 26, has been indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury on one count of vandalism, a fifth-degree felony.
Chappell was arrested on May 27 after Solon Police said she “purposely flooded the facility” while she was being held at the jail for another agency.
According to corrections officers, the woman “stuffed a towel and toilet paper into the toilet of the cell that she was in and repeatedly flushed it.”
The overflowing toilet flooded the female dormitory, jail lobby and master control hallway, and investigators said the resulting water damage interfered with jail operations.
Inmates had to be relocated to another part of the 26-bed facility while officers worked to clean up the standing water.
At the time of her arrest, Chappell had an active warrant for failing to appear in Bedford Municipal Court in December 2023 for a misdemeanor criminal case.

She pleaded not guilty to the vandalism charge at her municipal court arraignment on May 29 and was released from jail on $5,000 bond.
Chappell is scheduled to appear in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court next week.
If convicted, she faces up to 12 months in prison and a $2,500 fine.
