Brunswick Hills police still putting the pieces together two months after teen’s death
BRUNSWICK HILLS, Ohio (WOIO) - Two months after the death of an 18-year-old, Brunswick Hills Police are still looking to fill in the blanks on a 30-minute window they believe could hold the answers to his death.
“Just graduated from high school; the week before this, he had his graduation party,” said Brunswick Hills Police Chief Tim Sopkovich.
The chief laid out what happened July 12th, the night that resulted in the death of Christion Olson, which is being investigated as a suspicious death.
He explains that seven teenage boys gathered to hang out in a quiet neighborhood roughly 700 feet from where the police department sits.
Around four in the morning, two of his friends brought him home, but not before he left the house for roughly a half hour, in which no one can account for his whereabouts.
Olson’s friends found him on a lawn before bringing him home.
“There is a window that we’re looking at between 1:45 to two am we’re trying to piece together and gather more information around that time frame,” said Sopkovich. “He had some injuries on him, and right now, it’s our job to determine how those happened.”
The chief says Olson’s friends helped him inside, and his family woke up to him throwing up before he experienced cardiac arrest.
Olson died early on the morning of July 13th.
But there are some things that are still a mystery, like what happened for the unaccounted time Olson was away, and where did the marks on his face come from?
Sopkovich says those are the pieces police are still trying to find, as he does not show up in any security camera footage or ring camera footage.
Over the last two months, 11 search warrants have been drafted, and interviews continue, even some taking place on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, one of the challenges of the case is waiting for key pieces of evidence; the coroner says the autopsy could take up to six months for results.
“Unfortunately, the sad thing about these cases is it takes time; right now, we are waiting on several pieces of important evidence to get back and get tested and evaluated,” said Sopkovich.
He added that all the teens are good kids, and police have no reason to believe anyone had a problem with Olson.
The family spoke with 19 News on the phone and say the whole family believes the teen’s death was no accident.
“Christion was a good kid, we don’t know the cause of death right now, we are going to look into it, we’re not going to leave any stone unturned,” said Sopkovich.
