CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Right here at home there’s a push to cherish Cleveland baseball history.

A big fundraiser, Champions Awakened for the Baseball Heritage Museum is happening Friday, Spet 20. An event all in support of the museum’s future.

Cleveland’s Baseball Heritage Museum on Lexington Ave. sits inside the iconic League Park, the original home of Cleveland baseball in the city’s Hough neighborhood.

The museum preserves artifacts and stories of diversity in baseball.

Protecting baseball’s history an important responsibility for museum director, Ricardo Rodriguez.

“This is the same field that the cleveland buckeyes won their 1945 championship. The cleveland buckeyes were cleveland’s negro league team. They played in the mid 30s, 40s right here in league park. It’s important to keep that story alive,” said Rodriguez.

Tickets remain on sale for the funraiser.
