Cleveland woman finally gets new porch after months of work

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Months of work have replaced the holes at the front and back of a woman’s home with new porches.

“For 10 months, I had those holes turn into sinkholes,” said Viola Bowie. “These are new, and they’re strong and pretty.”

Last year, Bowie said she was approved for the City of Cleveland’s Senior Assistance Program to fix the porches on her home, which is over 100 years old.

However, the first contractor, Croxton Technology Corp., left the job unfinished for months, suspending the porch roofs on spindly boards and the front and back doors unusable.

Bowie wanted the first contractor out and Absolute Roofing, a company that had done prior work on her home, on the job.

But she says she wasn’t able to get any movement, stuck with holes instead of porches.

So Bowie called 19 Troubleshooters, and we did a story.

And another one.

We made phone calls and talked with people at city hall to try to move the paperwork along to get someone, anyone, on the job who would actually get it done.

Finally, everything fell into place in August.

“And in what has been less than six weeks, completed not just one contract but two, beautiful, professional work,” said Bowie.

Now, she has her porches!

“When I followed my niece and nephew’s advice, things started happening because, from that point, things started happening, this started happening, and they have not stopped,” said Bowie. “It’s like my home has been given back to me, only better.”
