Akron Police seize guns and drugs from teens during traffic stop

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - According to police, members of the Anti-Violence Bureau arrested two teens with guns and drugs during a traffic stop in the South Akron neighborhood Thursday.

The teen’s vehicle was pulled over at East Archwood Avenue and Lily Street just before 6:00 p.m. for traffic and equipment violations.

Police said the front-seat passenger, a 17-year-old male, attempted to flee but was taken into custody after a brief struggle where he reportedly hit a police officer.

During a search of the teen, a loaded handgun and over 19 grams of suspected fentanyl were found.

The juvenile was charged with carrying concealed weapons, improper handling of firearms inside a motor vehicle, obstructing official business, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, trafficking in drugs, possession of a fentanyl-related compound, and criminal damaging.

Officers also arrested a 16-year-old who was sitting in the back seat after they found a loaded handgun with a 50-round magazine inside the backpack next to where he was sitting. He was charged with carrying concealed weapons and improper handling of firearms inside a motor vehicle.

The 16-year-old driver of the car was driving without a valid license.
