Mother grieves following deadly Euclid shooting: ‘They came there to ambush my kids’

EUCLID, Ohio (WOIO) - Police continue to investigate the shooting that took the lives of a brother and sister in Euclid.

Their mother details what happened in the incident that still has her in shock.

“My son died in my arms,” said mother LaShawnda Grier. “As a mother, how do you pick which kid you are trying to save and both of them down?”

Grier was there when her two kids were gunned down in the parking lot of the Green Ridge apartments off Euclid Avenue.

“All of us fell at the same time. I got up, my oldest daughter got up and ran up the hill, and I ran down the hill. I saw my son underneath the car, and my other ones fell, and I picked him up, and he was so slumped,” said Grier.

She explains a group of women were waiting at the apartment to attack her daughter, 21-year-old Mariana Grier, who lived at the building.

Her 20-year-old son, Antwon Grier, went there to try and de-escalate the situation.

“I know for a fact it was all over a boy,” said Grier.

She says the spark for all this violence was jealousy over a relationship, adding the girls pictured in security camera footage from the complex worked with her daughter.

She also claims there was a van full of people lying in wait.

“They came there to ambush my kids,” said Grier.

The Euclid Police Department said in a statement a disturbance broke out among a gathering of people in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Gunshots were fired within the crowd at approximately 7:15 p.m., stated EPD.

Grier herself was almost shot, and moments after the shooting, was performing CPR on her son.

EPD said officers performed lifesaving efforts until paramedics arrived, efforts that were unfortunately unsuccessful.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Center said the siblings were both taken to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where they died on Tuesday night.

The medical examiner reported Antwon as a Maple Heights resident, so 19 News has requested clarification.

EPD said detectives continue to investigate this double homicide and have “developed strong leads.”

“Euclid is doing a wonderful job, a wonderful job, and I applaud them for that,” said Grier. “They know I don’t play about my kids. I’ma get justice for my kids. If it’s every breath that’s in my body, I’ma get it.”

Grier said there is a GoFundMe set up to help funeral costs for the siblings.
