“The Grappler system is another tool for us to do just that (apprehend these criminals while minimizing risks to the public],” the Facebook post said.

“Combined with other intervention techniques such as stop sticks, PIT maneuvers and undercover operations, our Officers have several options to try and safely end pursuits, or better yet, stop them before they start. While no pursuit intervention tool or technique works 100% of the time, the more choices available to us, the higher the probability of success.”

On Dec. 26, the Garfield Heights Police Department shared on Facebook the success of the new grappler police bumper.

According to the post, on the evening of Christmas, police officers arrested a man who had fled from police multiple times previously.

The man was later charged with two felonies: fleeing and obstruction of official business.

“The best part about this gift? The supply is not limited and it’s available all year round to eligible participants,” Garfield Heights Police said in the post.
