CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The NBA has crowned Darius Garland the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played between January 6 and January 12. This marks Garland’s second honor of the season and the third of his career.

The 24-year-old led the Cavaliers to a 2-1 record, improving their overall record to an NBA-best 33-5. His performance included 18 points and seven assists in Cleveland’s crucial win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

During the week, Garland averaged a team-high 26.0 points and 7.7 assists in 32.3 minutes per game. He also showcased impressive shooting percentages, hitting .528 from the field, .409 from three-point range, and .929 from the free-throw line.

And here’s a little history lesson: Garland is now rubbing elbows with Cavaliers legends. He’s only the fourth player in franchise history to win this award three or more times, joining the elite company of LeBron James, Donovan Mitchell, and Kyrie Irving. Not bad for a guy who’s just getting started.
