Mentor police say this ‘$10 investment’ saved a man’s life

LAKE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A Mentor man managed to escape an early morning house fire thanks to his smoke detector.

Mentor firefighters said they were called out to the home in the 7100 block of Mentor Ave. at 3:48 a.m.

The resident told firefighters he was asleep, but his smoke detector woke him up.

“This gentleman’s $10 investment SAVED HIS LIFE! It’s not a myth, folks. They really do work,” posted Mentor firefighters on Facebook

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
