Jim Tressel sworn in as Ohio’s 67th Lt. Gov.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Jim Tressel was sworn in as Ohio’s 67th Lieutenant Governor at a ceremony in Columbus Friday morning.

Tressel was approved by the Ohio State Senate and House of Representatives to be the new Lt. Gov. Wednesday afternoon in a 31-1 vote.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine nominated Jim Tressel to be the state’s new Lt. Gov. at a news conference in Columbus Monday morning.

Tressel will take the place of former Lt. Gov. Jon Husted who was named last month to fill the Senate seat that Vice President JD Vance vacated.

“He knows Ohio,” said DeWine. “I trust his judgment and he has the ability to pull people together.”

Tressel said his wife Ellen told him, “Sounds like God has more work for you to do.”

Most recently, Tressel was president of Youngstown State University from 2014 until he retired in 2023.

Before that, Tressel was the head football coach at Youngstown State from 1986-2000 and was named the 22nd head football coach at The Ohio State University in 2001.

In 2002, his team won the national championship.

Tressel is also a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University (BW) in Berea.
