Severe storms leave damage, thousands of Northeast Ohio FirstEnergy customers without power
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Thousands of FirstEnergy customers woke up without power after severe storms swept through Northeast Ohio overnight.
FirstEnergy reported about 50,000 Northeast Ohio customers were impacted at 9:30 a.m., with over 35,000 being from Summit County alone.
That number dropped down to nearly 26,000 by 3:30 p.m.
Crews are still investigating the outages, so an estimated restoration time is still to be determined in most areas.
Communities in Barberton told 19 News they have trees lying in their yards and on their power lines.
“I called Barberton and we also put in a call for Ohio Edison because the transformer over here blew and took out that whole lot,” said Gary Knight. “There are 13 people out of power here right now”.

As for storm damage, fallen power lines and debris blocked several roads throughout Northeast Ohio.

- SR-88 is blocked between OH-44 and OH-700 due to debris
- US-224 is blocked between Waterloo Road and Hartville Road due to debris
Stark County

Summit County
- West Turkeyfoot Lake Road is blocked between Manchester Road and State Road due to down power lines
- OH-241 is blocked at 9th Street SW due to debris
- OH-93 at Youth Street is blocked due to debris
