The Ohio Department of Transportation is looking to make improvements to the intersection of the I-71 northbound exit ramp at U.S 42/Pearl Road in Middleburg Heights
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - In attempts to reduce crashes, the Ohio Department of Transportation is looking to make improvements to the intersection of the I-71 northbound exit ramp at U.S 42/Pearl Road in Middleburg Heights.
The proposed improvements include:
- Installing traffic lights
- Removing the right-turn slip ramp at the exit
- Re-aligning and widening the I-71 northbound exit U.S. 42/ Pearl Road to create a signalized T-intersection
- The existing exit ramp median island will be reconstructed
- The existing median island on the east leg of U.S 42 will be extended
ODOT says that the project is necessary to reduce crashes because it will improve sight distance and allow for safer turning on and off the ramp.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2026 and might go through the summer, according to ODOT.
