ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (WOIO) - Firefighters now know the cause of the fire that heavily damaged the Rocky River Brewing Company on Center Ridge Road Tuesday morning.

Rocky River Fire Chief Aaron Lenart said a construction crew working on the roof of the restaurant accidentally started the blaze, causing $3 million in damages.

The fire broke out around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Two Rocky River Firefighters were injured fighting the blaze and taken to a local hospital.

Chief Lenart said one firefighter was treated and released and the other spent the night at the hospital.

Cari Linden-Stafford worked at the brewery back in the late 90s. For more than 25 years it has been the gathering spot for her friends and family.

”I think incredibly emotional for so many people because Brew Co. wasn’t just about the food and the beer. To me it’s about the community, the connections, the comfort. It’s like walking into a second home," said Linden-Stafford

Chief Lenart added it was 93 degrees when they arrived and firefighters wear 60-80 pounds of gear.

Multiple other fire departments assisted at the scene.

The restaurant will be closed until further notice.
