VERMILION, Ohio (WOIO) - Vermilion residents are sending well wishes to the woman recovering after crashing into a gas pump at Mickey’s Mart on Monday.

The victim suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel. The gas pump canopy collapsed on her car.

“I’m just hoping she’s okay. I hope it wasn’t anything drastic or life-threatening,” said Jandi Arthur.

The woman was flown to MetroHealth. On Tuesday, the fire chief told 19 News at this time, he does not have an update on her condition.

“It’s such a quiet town. Things like this do not happen here. That’s pretty scary. We were driving to a restaurant and came right up on it with all the police. That was insane,” said Arthur.

Thankfully, no one else was hurt. The toppled over canopy caused quite the attraction on Tuesday as folks like Ralue Friend stopped on their commute to see what happened and snapped some photos.

“I have never seen that happen before. My granddaughter used to work there, but it’s been around a long time,” said Friend.

The fire chief says no fuel was leaked, there was no fire, and the gas pumps are now shut off.

The gas station company tells 19 News they are working on a statement about the incident.
