An officer responded and located the man near Stoney Hill Drive.

According to police, the man “aggressively confronted” the officer and was armed with a hammer.

The officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect.

Hudson business owners like Nick Patel are in shock.

“We just took this store a couple of months ago. It was a surprise to us. Hudson is a beautiful area,” said Patel.

Patel runs the Sunoco near SR 91 and Stoney Hill Drive where the shooting happened.

He was woken up by a security alert that someone shattered the store’s glass door.

“We pull up the video. We saw some guy come in from that direction walking I think he has a hammer. He had his hammer in his hand and he just came in and smashed the window and he went back and he came back and he smashed the window again. And then after a few minutes he just walked out,” said Patel.

The suspect was transported to Akron City Hospital. His name and condition have not been released.

The officer was not injured.

After the shooting, Hudson Police reached out to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for assistance with the investigation.

SR 91 was closed for several hours but reopened around 10 a.m.
