OSNABURG TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) - An 83-year-old man was killed in a house fire in Osnaburg Township Saturday night.

According to a release from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, deputies at the Osnaburg Township Fire Department responded to a fire in the 2700 block of Sunlight Avenue NE on Saturday.

Firefighters found 83-year-old, Gene Miller in the home and took him to Aultman Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Dan and Deb King were Millers neighbors for 37 years.

“He was a good guy, would help anyone in the neighborhood if they needed it,” said King.

The King’s son was home at the time if the fire.

“He heard the sirens, and came out and saw all the smoke, and went up there. Him and another neighbor tried to get in the house and there was just too much smoke coming out,” said King.

Gene Miller lived with his son and grandson, who were not in the home at the time of the fire.

“Ed and Alex lost everything,” said King.

King also told 19 News that the two are working with the Red Cross.

“They’re going to have to figure out where to live and get new everything, I’m sure they’re overwhelmed with the devastation of their dad and grandpa,” said King.

The fire is under investigation, but does not seem suspicious, according to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.
