Akron road rage suspect shoots woman and her husband’s car: police

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - A woman was shot in the shoulder, and her husband’s car window was shot out, by an Akron suspect during a road rage incident on Saturday afternoon, police confirmed.
The Akron Police Department said officers were sent to the 600 block of Moreley Avenue for a shooting at approximately 3:59 p.m. on Sept. 20.
Officers arrived to find a 32-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound in her shoulder, said APD.
APD said the initial investigation revealed the victim and her husband were driving in separate cars heading southbound on South Hawkins Avenue.
The victims reported a woman behind the wheel of a gray Mercedes-Benz was driving recklessly, according to APD.
The husband told officers the suspect started honking her horn before he got out of his car to see what was the matter, APD shared.
The suspect then pointed a gun at him, which caused him to get back in his car, APD reported.
APD said as he tried to drive away, the suspect fired a shot that shattered his rear window.
The suspect then shot through the front driver’s side window of the wife’s car, which then struck her shoulder, according to APD.
19 News obtained a 911 call from the incident from the woman who admitted to firing her gun.
She claimed that it instead was the couple in their separate cars who were driving recklessly and that the man twice emerged from his car and came towards her which prompted her to pull out her weapon.
She said that she tried to drive away but they followed her, she says she fired the gun out of fear.
Following the shooting the couple drove to a home on Moreley Avenue where officers and paramedics arrived, said APD.
APD stated the victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Akron Police Department Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit detectives were on scene to interview witnesses and collect evidence.
APD confirmed officers later identified the suspect and found the suspect’s Mercedes-Benz.
No charges have been filed at this time, APD stated, as the incident is still under investigation.
