18-year-old dies after shooting on Cleveland’s east side: Police
Teen victim shot by suspects inside of the convenience store
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - An 18-year-old man is dead after a shooting on Cleveland’s east side on Christmas Eve.
According to the Cleveland Police, at around 9:27 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Lakeview Road for reports of a man shot.
When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old man with gunshot wounds inside the In and Out Beverage and Deli store on Lakeview near Earle.
EMS and police officers rendered first aid, and the shooting victim was taken to University Hospital, where he died.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner later identified the victim as Chase D. Holt.
A source close to the investigation tells 19 News that seven young people, with masks, rushed into the convenience store with guns and began firing at Holt.
The source says not only was the victim targeted, but the suspects backed him into a corner where he couldn’t escape the violence.
19 News has been told that about 40 rounds were fired, some hitting store shelves and the floor as well as the victim.
We are working to learn more about what led up to the shooting and if any arrests were made.
Cleveland police said its homicide unit is investigating the incident.
