Arrest made after woman killed in hit-and-run crash on Cleveland’s East Side
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Cleveland’s East Side early Sunday morning, according to EMS.
The crash happened in the 4300 block of Lee Road around 1:12 a.m., according to Cleveland Police.
Police said that a Jeep Grand Cherokee was speeding northbound on Lee Road.
When Jeep approached the Lee and Miles intersection, police said it failed to stop at the red light and struck a pedestrian who was crossing outside the crosswalk.
Cleveland EMS told 19 News that paramedics responded to the scene for a woman in her 70s who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a release, the Jeep traveled off the roadway and hit a concrete staircase and a metal railing.
The Jeep sustained heavy damage and lost a tire. Police said, however, the Jeep did not stop at the scene.
During the investigation, officers found the Jeep in another location and arrested a 22-year-old Maple Heights woman.
Police said that charges are pending.
