NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (WOIO) - A bomb threat written on a bathroom stall in the New Philadelphia Walmart prompted an evacuation on Wednesday morning, police confirmed.

The New Philadelphia Police Department said officers were sent to the reported bomb threat at 231 Bluebell Dr. NW after a message about a bomb written on the wall of the handicap-accessible stall in the women’s bathroom was found at 10:10 a.m.

The store was evacuated “out of an abundance of caution” and Canton Police Department bomb-detection K-9 teams were called to the scene, according to NPPD.

K-9s and police officers conducted a sweep of the store, but NPPD confirmed no suspicious items were found.

Walmart was reopened to the public at approximately 12:05 p.m. after the search was complete, NPPD said.

NPPD stated the investigation into who wrote the threat is still active.
