Eastlake city council president steps down

EASTLAKE, Ohio (WOIO) - Eastlake city council president stepped down Tuesday, citing issues balancing responsibilities.

Michael Semick announced his decision to step down immediately at Tuesday’s council meeting.

Semick read his resignation letter aloud at the meeting.

In the letter, Semick cited increasing demands over balancing responsibilities in different sectors of his life as his reason for stepping down.

“After a great deal of reflection, I have decided that it is time for me to step away from public office,” Semick said. “The increasing demands of balancing my professional responsibilities, personal life and the responsibilities of serving on council have made it difficult for me to continue giving this position the level of time, energy and focus that I believe it deserves.”

Semick will remain on the council through June 23 to create a smooth transition of power, he said.

“I sincerely thank the residents who placed their trust in me, as well as my fellow council members, city employees, and community members who work every day to make Eastlake a better place,” Semick said. “It truly has been an honor to serve.”
