SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC/Gray News) — A man is facing charges after he allegedly posed as a physician and performed unlicensed medical examinations in South Carolina.

According to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, Joshua Leonard James Himes, 36, has been arrested on charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and unlawfully practicing medicine.

Dorchester County deputies said James’ arrest comes after they met with a victim regarding sexual assault allegations.

During the investigation, deputies noted that they learned that Himes had represented himself as a physician while performing medical exams.

The sheriff’s office said Himes was found not to have a South Carolina medical license, nor to be authorized to perform such medical services.

Deputies executed a search warrant at Himes’ house on Friday, where he was later taken into custody.

Himes was booked into the L.C. Knight Detention Center.
