Ohio’s tax holiday will be extremely different this year and you will not save as much money

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) -The annual Ohio Tax Holiday is going to be extremely different from what it was last year and in turn you will not save nearly as much money.

The idea behind tax free shopping was to help families with back-to-school shopping, but it ended up saving everyone money.

Last year, the Ohio Legislature voted to expand the holiday to the first two weeks in August, and just about everything under $500 was tax free.

Alcohol, weed, cars and boats were not tax free.

This year, lawmakers did not vote to expand, so it will go back to the original plan of one weekend, Friday August 7th through Sunday the 9th, and what is tax free is greatly reduced.

This year only clothes and shoes under $75 are exempt, and only school supplies of $20 or less will be tax free.

However lawmakers did vote to reauthorize the expanded holiday next year in 2027.
