Newfound ‘baby’ planet breaks record for youngest world

(CNN) - NASA says astronomers have confirmed the world is less than a million years old.

The planet’s name is “Elias 2-24 B.” NASA says the baby is still whirling in what it called its natal disk of dust and gas.

The previous record was a four-way tie. All four were more than 5 million years old.

To confirm the new record, astronomers used data from NASA-funded archives.

A paper detailing the results was published Wednesday in “The Astrophysical Journal Letters.”
