Nor’easter sends waves crashing over homes, cancels hundreds of flights
(AccuWeather) - More than 40 million Americans in the Northeast are bracing for the worst of an intensifying nor’easter.
The rare September storm has gained strength, threatening heavy rain, coastal flooding and strong wind gusts.
More than 95,000 customers lost power.
In Atlantic City, New Jersey, Saturday morning’s high tide sent water levels to the highest point since Superstorm Sandy back in 2012.
More than 400 flights were canceled.
Forecasters project peak impact from the storm Saturday, and the worst will begin to wind down by Sunday afternoon.
The nor’easter has led to the cancellation of a number of big events, including the Global Citizen Festival in New York City and Ed Sheeran’s concerts at Gillette Stadium.
Meanwhile, the storm’s relentless winds drove days of coastal flooding and beach erosion along the Mid-Atlantic.
