Relief at the gas pump coming after Gov. DeWine signs gas tax holiday bill
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WOIO) -This morning, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 519, which will suspend the state’s gas tax.
Both the Ohio House and Senate passed emergency legislation yesterday to suspend the state gas tax for three months.
The current state gas tax rate in Ohio is $0.385 per gallon for gas, and $0.47 for diesel.
Filling up a 15 gallon tank of gas would mean a saving of $5.78 if this were to pass.
Ohio uses gas tax funds for construction and maintenance of roads and bridges.
To make up for the loss at the pump, the bill proposes pulling $725 million from the state’s general fund.
The bill would also require gas stations to provide itemized receipts to make sure you actually get the saving and it’s not being collected as profit for station owners.
The reduction would take effect three days after DeWine signs the bill.
