Five years later, a family remains hopeful for justice in Metroparks double murder

FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (WOIO) - Carnell Sledge and Kate Brown, two longtime friends, were murdered near a park bench in the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Reservation five years ago.

Sledge’s family held a vigil, Tuesday night, where he and Brown spent their final moments.

“I feel sad, I feel hurt. It’s like part of me is dead part of me, just doesn’t exist, but it is real,” Audrey Posey, Sledge’s grandmother said. “I don’t want to believe it even though it’s been five years.”

On June 4, 2019, Sledge and Brown were killed in broad daylight at the busy park. Both had been shot in the head.

Their killer has not been found.

Now, five years later, Sledge’s family hopes anyone who witnessed this will come forward.

“This park is real active,” Sledge’s cousins said. “A lot of cars, bicycles people in boats, and it’s amazing no one seen that.”

Posey can’t understand how someone could do this.

“He was kind, he didn’t bother no one, he was a helping person, he helped people,” Posey said.

Sledge’s family wants him to be remembered for how he lived.

“Nothing but love,” Posey said. “He loved me and I loved him.”

A $100,000 reward is available for information leading to an arrest. Tipsters will stay anonymous.
