Extra security at Cleveland Catholic elementary school after taser, laced edibles found
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - There are extra police patrols Friday at a Catholic elementary school on the city’s East side, after two unrelated incidents this week involving laced edibles and a taser.
According to a letter from St. Jerome officials to parents, edibles laced with fentanyl were brought to school on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Principal Lyndsey Byrne and Co-Principal Katie Coan stated in the letter the student who brought the edibles onto property will no longer be attending St. Jerome and Cleveland police are handling the investigation.
On Wednesday, Dec. 12, a teacher discovered a student had brought a taser onto school property.
The student apparently did not enter a classroom, brandish the weapon or make any threats.
Cleveland police are also investigating that incident and the student will not be allowed to return to St. Jerome.
Besides the additional police patrols, there will also be bag searches for all 7th and 8th grade students through the end of next week, according to the letter.
St. Jerome Catholic School is located in the 15100 block of Lakeshore Blvd.
