Form 1040 draft includes a question you haven’t seen before. Here’s what it asks

(Gray News) - The Trump administration appears poised to ask tax filers if they are United States citizens, according to New York Times reporting on a draft of Form 1040.

The draft form also asks if filers are authorized to work legally in the U.S.

“At the time you file your return, are you, and your spouse if filing jointly, a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or an alien lawfully authorized to work in the U.S.?” the question reads on the draft version of Form 1040.

The Times reports the Trump administration is trying to cut refunds for undocumented immigrants who pay taxes.
