Trial to begin for Barberton man charged in deadly domestic shooting at intersection
AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - The jury trial for a Barberton man charged in a deadly domestic dispute shooting at a Barberton intersection, is scheduled to begin Thursday in Summit County Court of Common Pleas.
Justice Oney was indicted on the charges of murder, felonious assault, and abduction for the April 14 shooting.
Barberton police said Oney fatally shot Nathan Flight, 25, of Canton, around 1:30 a.m. on April 14, 2025 at the intersection of E. Paige Avenue and 3rd Street NE.

According to police, the domestic situation was between Oney and Oney’s wife.
Flight was just trying to help his friend, Oney’s wife, go to a domestic violence shelter.
“He was just there to talk to her because she was obviously upset and was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Barberton Police Officer Marty Eberhart.
When first responders arrived on scene, they found Flight laying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds.
EMS rushed Flight to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Oney was located a short distance away from the scene and taken into custody without incident.
