Ceilings continue to fall at Cleveland apartment complex

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - As more ceilings fall at Park Place Apartments, people continue to speak out about living conditions.

“You got to keep the pressure on management on everyone,” said Councilman Kevin Conwell, who has made several trips to the complex to check in on tenants.

19 News went to Park Place last month, talking with a woman marooned in hotel rooms without answers to her apartment ceiling collapsing in on her living room due to water damage.

Two other tenants invited 19 News into their apartments to show the damage after their ceilings fell in.

While they declined to be on camera themselves, they did note the damage has happened in the past week.

Others say staff have restored heat and hot water and are now offering people a hotel room while repairs are made to fix anyone’s collapsing ceiling.

“They are moving to try and correct some things, and the residents say management has been keeping their word,” said Conwell. “But I mean, you currently see what you see, and you’re not happy to see women and children living in abject poverty; it’s not good.”

While progress is being made, Conwell says there is still a way to go, especially with rodents and bugs. He says the people living there tell him the pest problem is rampant.

“When they hit their benchmarks that they told us,” said Conwell. “And that people are living with a good quality of life, that’s when I’m satisfied.”

19 News also reached out to FPI Management again for comment on the complex and is still waiting for a response, but did run into an unidentified person believed to be in management while out talking with tenants who forcefully asked 19 News to leave.
