Sandusky Police charge man with murder of young girl

SANDUSKY, Ohio (WOIO) - Sandusky Police found a young girl dead Thursday night and charged the man who reported her missing with murder.

According to Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver, officers received a call around 9 p.m. from 29-year-old Devin O’Brien reporting a young girl missing.

Officers responded to the 4000 block of Venice Road and after searching, they found the girl dead, according to Oliver.

Police say this led officers to arrest O’Brien and charge him with murder, putting him in Erie County Jail.

During a press conference Friday, Oliver said an autopsy was performed Friday morning.

“The child suffered some blunt force trauma injuries,” Oliver said.

“We’ve learned that she died from strangulation, there was signs of blunt force trauma and there was also signs of sexual assault.”

O’Brien is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning at the Sandusky Municipal Court, officials say.
