Arrest warrant issued for USPS worker accused of beating young Cleveland girl

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for a United States Postal worker who was caught on camera — in full uniform — allegedly beating a young girl.

Delilah Cross is the name of the letter carrier who’s seen in the cellphone video.

The incident happened seven months ago, but until now, no charges had been filed against her.

When 19 Investigates aired a report about this last week — that all changed.

The brawl broke out in broad daylight, on Sept. 23, 2024, at Ben Franklin Elementary School on Spring Road in Cleveland, right after students were released from class.

An officer with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District Police Department took to the call.

According to his report, an 11-year-old girl told him that while walking to the bus, Cross’s daughter — of the same age — attacked her with a book bag.

The responding officer anticipated charging Cross with several offenses, but when 19 Investigates first reported this last week — seven months after it happened — no charges had been filed.

On Wednesday, an arrest warrant was issued for Cross for the following misdemeanor charges: two counts of assault, endangering a child, criminal activity on school property and delinquency of a child.

19 Investigates found the CMSD Police Department was supposed to send this case to the Cleveland City Prosecutor’s Office — but sent it to the county by mistake.

The county prosecutor’s office declined to move forward, since they only handle felony cases.

CMSD then failed to follow up.

A CMSD spokesman says the case slipped through the cracks and he credits 19 Investigates with bringing it to light.

We’re working on getting more details about exactly why CMSD waited so long to send this case to prosecutors and will report any new information we receive as soon as we get it.
