CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - We take you inside the early hours of the investigation after someone hit and killed a Cleveland woman three years ago.

Instead of celebrating Mary Ann Pasko-Burey’s 39th birthday this month, her family is still waiting for answers. Who hit and killed her?

19 Investigates first looked into this case in January.

Now, new body camera video reveals more of what happened.

Just a few days after Christmas on December 30, 2021, a driver struck and killed 35-year-old Mary Ann Pasko-Burey as she walked on Storer Avenue near West 56th Street in Cleveland and then drove off.

Her sister Barbara is still reeling from this loss.

We spoke with her earlier this year.

“She had a heart of gold and she didn’t deserve this,” she said.

According to the report from Cleveland Police, there were two witnesses.

One witness said she didn’t see the car that hit her.

But she said she did see two women helping the victim, Mary Ann, lying in the middle of the street.

Once they saw ambulance lights, the witness told police those women got into two separate cars and drove off.

But she was able to get their license plates.

19 Investigates obtained police body cam video showing officers questioning one of the drivers of those cars.

“No damage on the hood or anything,” a police officer said as he checked the car, parked in a driveway, with his flashlight.

Body camera video showed police officers inspecting the woman’s silver Honda for any damage.

The officers did not find any blood on the car.

Next they spoke with the driver.

“I was driving on the street, and I saw something laying there and I was like, ‘Is that a person?’ And I just see cars going by, and I’m like, why is no one stopping?” she said.

The driver told police that she checked on the woman, later identified as Mary Ann.

But she wasn’t responsive and she then called 911.

“How can people see a lady there and keep going? That’s not human,” she said.

The Accident Investigation Unit with Cleveland Police later arrived and checked out her car too.

Investigators took pictures of her car to exclude it.

They spotted some minor damage, but no red flags.

“I would exclude this car,” one investigator said.

They ruled this woman out and the investigation continued.
